MRCS exam fee increase 2027

ICBSE, in collaboration with the four surgical royal colleges (UK and Ireland) have agreed to increase the examination fees for MRCS Part A and Part B by 3%, effective for all candidates from 1 January 2027.
What are the updated MRCS Examination fees?
The updated MRCS examination fees are as follows:
- MRCS Part A: Increase from £650 to £670
- MRCS Part B: Increase from £1,177 to £1,212
Why have the fees been increased?
To ensure that the MRCS remains a robust and standardised examination, and in line with changes to the delivery of MRCS Part A and MRCS Part B fees have been increased in line with inflation.
What does my examination fee cover?
MRCS Examination fees are used to cover the cost of examination development, delivery and quality assurance. Examination fees are used to cover the cost of:
- Examination development
- Examination delivery, including online and in person examinations
- Standard setting and quality assurance of examinations
- Examination governance, including committee and panels
- Involvement of Examiners and Assessors
- Staff and Resource costs
